3M Performance Rating -
MPR 1000

This is the best selling 3M
Filtrete™ Furnace and A/C Filter. It is a great choice for
people who want to improve their Indoor Air Quality and help
reduce allergens and microscopic particles from the air in their
homes including nuisance household dust.
For over 15 years, 3M has developed innovative
filtration solutions for a cleaner, better indoor home environment making
Filtrete™ the leading brand* in 1" residential air filters.
3M continues to develop innovative solutions by
offering a wide range of Filtrete™ filtration products designed to help clean
the air in people's homes. All Filtrete™ furnace filters are electrostatically**
charged to attract and capture both large and small particles from the air as it
passes through the filter.

Microparticle
Performance Rating (MPR)
The above chart is designed to help you compare
different filter types. The Performance Rating is a relative measure of a
filter's efficiency at capturing airborne particles between 0.3 and 1 micron in
size. The higher rating means better filtration efficiency based on independent
laboratory tests of leading brands. Note: Particles between 0.3 and 1
micron in size are classified as E1 particles by the American Society of
Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

How Does The 3M Filtrete™
Micro Allergen Furnace
Filter Help Clean The Air In My Home?
When your heat or central air conditioning is on, or if you run your fan
continuously, air circulates in your home and passes through your air filter.
Filtrete™ filters from 3M contain permanently electrostatically charged fibers
that work like tiny magnets to attract and capture the particles in your air.
Each of the filters in the Filtrete™
product line perform differently to meet various needs that people have. The
above picture shows types of particles that may be in the air in your home that
this filter will help remove. These particles are measured in microns. Did you
know that a human hair is about 70 microns in diameter? Particles smaller than
one micro are most important to capture because they make up 99% of the number
of particles in your air and can be breathed deep into the lungs.
How Often Do I Need To Change
My Filter?
Under normal conditions the recommended change
interval is three months. However, the effectiveness and life of the filter can
vary and will depend on the individual conditions in your home. Unusually dirty
duct work, construction work, sanding projects, the number of pets, the presence
of smokers, and running the fan continuously are some of the things that can
shorten the life of your filter. In these cases, change the filter more
frequently.
Do I Have To Worry About Restricted
Airflow With Filtrete™
Filters?
This filter is designed to operate appropriately
in most residential furnaces and air conditioning systems. If your Filtrete™
filter remains in use longer than 3 months, it may begin to restrict airflow or
cause the system to malfunction due to its high filtering efficient. It also
could restrict airflow in some energy efficient furnace/air conditioning
systems. In these cases, change the filter more frequently. If you have any
questions, please call us at 1-866-469-8556.
Are Filtrete™
Filters "Antimicrobial"?
Filtrete™
filtering material will not support the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew or
fungi in normal use. No unnecessary chemicals have been added to this filter.
Is Filter Frame Strength Important?
Yes, it is important for a filter frame to
withstand pressure created by air movement through the filter without bending or
collapsing. If a frame bends, it can allow unfiltered air to bypass the filter,
or if the frame collapses, it can be drawn into the furnace fan. Filtrete™
filters have reliable frame strength because they were designed to hold up even
under severe conditions.
What Is MERV?
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting
Value. It is a number from a test method designed by the American Society of
Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). The number is
intended to help people compare filters. Generally speaking, a higher MERV
indicates better filter performance.
ASHRAE designed MERV to represent, with a single
number, a filter's performance over many different particle sizes. However, the
MERV calculation for one-inch residential air filters does not consider a
filter's ability to capture the particles smaller than one micron in size. 3M
believes it is crucial to measure a filter's ability to capture these
submicron-sized particles because they can be breathed into the deepest areas of
the lungs.
This is why 3M goes beyond MERV with an
additional performance rating that focuses on a filter's ability to capture
submicron-sized particles. 3M's rating uses the same ASHRAE test method that
generates MERV, but uses only the data for capturing particles between 0.3 and 1
micron.
American Lung Association®
Health House® wants you to know...
- Many people spend as much as 90% of their time
indoors, and indoor levels of many pollutants can be two to five times higher
than outdoor levels.
- The Environmental Protection Agency has
identified indoor air pollution as one of the top five urgent environmental
risks to public health.
- Exposure to indoor air pollutants such as
smoke, dust, pet dander, molds, and other pollutants can pose health risks and
contribute to respiratory disease, allergies, and asthma.
Filtrete™
filters from 3M are one way to help improve the air quality in your home. You
should also control pollutants at their source and adequately ventilate your
home as key elements of an overall strategy from improving the quality of air in
your home. For more information call us at 1-866-469-8556 or visit the Health

The American Lung Association Health House
Project develops guidelines for designing and constructing homes that are
healthier and more energy efficient. Through its Health House Project, the Lung
Association has established indoor air quality guidelines in an effort to help
people choose products that will help to improve the quality of the air in their
home. This Filtrete™
filter meets the Health House® indoor air quality guidelines.
3M makes an annual contribution to the American
Lung Association in order to help fund an education campaign designed to
generate awareness and educate people about indoor air quality issues. This
